Community Hazard Risk Inventory System

CHRIS

The Community Hazard Risk Inventory System is an exploratory tool built to help natural hazard mitigation planners identify areas where hazard exposure intersects with potentially vulnerable people and assets. For best use guidelines, see here

The data sources behind each indicator in this tool come from a variety of sources with differing update schedules, and, like all data, have imperfections inherent in them. The results of this mapping tool alone should not result in any decision-making or regulatory effect. They are intended for planning purposes only. For a comprehensive list of data sources used, see here

How to Use

To use the tool, select a county of interest and any indicators you want included in the analysis. Then, click 'Run Model'. The resulting hexagons can be clicked to show individual scores for each indicator.

This tool displays outputs of a PROMETHEE model. Indicators are scored on a scale from -0.2 to 1, where 0 is roughly average, and negative and positive scores reflect deviation from average. Selected vulnerability indicators and selected harm indicators are averaged separately. Their intersection is displayed on the map.

For visualization, scores are grouped into the following categories:

Less than 0 — Low relative risk
0–0.19 — Medium relative risk
0.2–0.29 — High relative risk
≥ 0.3 — Very high relative risk
